We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to help architect, design, and implement Mitra Chem’s software infrastructure and data pipelines. A few highlights of the role:

  • Ownership: Make key software design decisions as we develop our infrastructure and be responsible for architecting powerful, cost efficient, and secure solutions.
  • Agility: Work at the crossroads of data science and chemistry, building software that bridges the gap and empowers collaborative innovation.
  • Impact: Drive rapid decision making and continuously accelerate product development timelines by integrating data from a variety of hardware and software tools.

Responsibilities

  • Build a software infrastructure powered by state-of-the-art software tools and solutions that will serve as the driving force behind accelerated experimentation in the lab and industry-disrupting data science applications.
  • Automate data ingestion and analysis using cloud computing, SQL databases, and Python microservices.
  • Develop data pipelines and storage systems in support of internal data science and machine learning efforts.
  • Work closely with materials scientists and data scientists to identify R&D bottlenecks, design and build new software tools and features.
  • Develop data visualization platforms to allow data access and interpretation.
  • Build and maintain AWS-based infrastructure built on Kubernetes, Lambda, SQL and noSQL databases, and deployed using Terraform.
  • Write documentation and train and support users on tool and infrastructure usage.
  • Monitor and report key performance metrics.

Qualifications

  • Strong knowledge of AWS, Git, SQL and familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes and Terraform.
  • Experience with data pipeline and workflow management tools such as Airflow, Argo etc.
  • Some experience with and/or a willingness to write software in Python.
  • Familiarity with event based data processing and serverless computing.
  • Hardware (e.g. microcontroller) programming to automate control of and data acquisition from scientific instruments is a plus.
  • Self-motivated and willing to work in a small team environment.
